TOTAL DISTANCE: 14km on foot

Take walking shoes, hat, swimming clothes, sun cream, water and food.

An all day walk suitable for most abilities. The last part of the walk may be difficult or tiring for younger children or older walkers depending on level of fitness. First 2 hours walking on a trail, last half hour “stone hopping” in the river bed to arrive at the Sossego Waterfall. On the return stop at Ribeirão do Meio to slide down the natural water slide.

RIBEIRÃO DE CIMA Distance from Lençóis: 5 km Time: 1hr 15min. on foot. Leave Lençóis on an easy trail which takes you through the heart of the old diamond mining areas. Your guide will be able to point out the evidence of the past empire including the paved paths laid down by the slaves and cave dwellings still used by miners today. You can also see in the distance evidence of the more recent and destructive dredge mining in the Sao Jose River. After approx. 1 hour walking you reach RIBEIRÃO DE CIMA where you can enjoy a refreshing swim in a natural swimming hole and dry off on the large flat rocks. Those who prefer can remain here, since continuing on the trail begins to get steeper.
	CACHOEIRA DO SOSSEGO – TRANQUILITY WATERFALL Distance from Lençóis: 7 km Time: 2hrs 30 min on foot After another hour walking along the trail we join the river again and continue the walk ‘stone hoping’ in the river bed which can be tiring and is not suitable for all walkers. This part of the walk can take anywhere between 30 minutes to an hour depending on the water levels and walkers’ ability. It is not possible at all when the water levels are very high or there is a risk of flash flooding. However, at the end you are rewarded with the CACHOEIRA DO SOSSEGO – TRANQUILITY WATERFALL, a large and impressive waterfall with a large swimming pool. Here we can enjoy a pack lunch, refreshing swim and a well deserved rest in the sun.
RIBEIRÃO DO MEIO Distance from Lençóis: 4km Time: 45 min. on foot. We return by the same route for most of the way but then take a different route via RIBEIRÃO DO MEIO. This is the famous waterslide. Your guide can advise you where and how to slide safely down the waterslide, it is extremely slippery and can be dangerous. Your return to Lençóis takes approx. 40 minutes along an easy, mostly flat trail.
Alternatively, RIBEIRÃO DO MEIO can also be an easy ½ day walk from Lençóis. From here it is possible to reach the RIBEIRÃO DE CIMA by following the river upstream or if you follow the river down stream you will reach another large swimming hole, RIBEIRÃO DE BAXIO. It is possible to return to Lençóis from here along the old mining road.
