Cave Paintings

TOTAL DISTANCE: 140 km by car, 2 km on foot

Take walking shoes, hat, swimming clothes, sun cream, flash light, warm pullover, water and food.
This is not an all day trip, but most of the morning is spent in the cave. There is little walking involved but there are some quite narrow places in the cave which may not be to the liking of all. This tour and can be combined with other sites in the area, for example Pai Incaio Hill, Pratinha Cave or for real cave dwellers, Lapa Doce Cave.

CAVE PAINTINGS

Distance from Lençóis: 70km Time: 1hr by car and 15min. on foot.

At the entrance to the Torrinha cave can be found a large collection of cave paintings. This example is similar to many found in the region. There is very little know about the date or history of the paintings but local guides information ranges from 15 to 40,000 years old.

Distance from Lençóis: 70km Time: 1hr by car and 15min. on foot to the entrance of the cave.

Walk 2 - 4 hours inside the cave.

The Torrinha Cave boasts some of the rarest and most beautiful limestone formations in South America and indeed the world. This is a must for any cave enthusiast, but not for the claustrophobic as there are some narrow passes and low ceilings. You can take one of three tours ranging from 2 or 4 hours. I recommend the complete tour.
