ROTEIRO 10 - Horse Riding Remanso Road TOTAL DISTANCE: 26 km on horse back. This is an all day trip which is spent mainly on horse back with minimal walking. |
Leave Lençóis on horse back and take a winding trail up the hill to reach the wider Remanso road. Following this road for a while gives the more experienced riders a chance for a bit of speed! Along this road we then take a smaller track through some of the few remaining still unspoilt forests in the area. Here we come across the Mangaba tree, a fruit only found in this region, at the right time of year we will be able to pick the fallen fruits which are delicious.
We slowly climb until we leave the horses to climb on foot to the top of the ridge where we are rewarded with a spectacular view of the National Park, Sao Jose River and impressive hills to the west, and the huge expanse of woodlands and the Marimbus Wetland to the east. |
Rejoining the horses again we continue down into the Sao Jose Valley to cross the river and stop for lunch and a swim in a large pool formed by the Capivara River. Those feeling adventurous can explore up river or just relax under a tree. Once the hottest part of the day is past and the horses are rested we continue along the old mining road crossing many rivers and seeing the abandoned dredge mines. Arrive in Lençóis late afternoon. |
