CACHOEIRA DA FUMAÇA POR BAIXO 
(UNDERNEATH SMOKE WATERFALL)

 This is a spectacular walk but quite tiring and definitely not suitable for all abilities. There is a lot of steep walking both up and down and much of the walking is on uneven ground or over rock in the river beds. It is also necessary for everyone to carry their own equipment which includes tent, sleeping bag and mat, clothes and about 2kg of food each. It is possible to do this walk with porters at an extra cost.
Nights are spent camping in tents or rock overhanging or out in the open (weather permitting). Your guide will prepare breakfast and a cooked evening meal at the camp locations. Lunch is a cold snack usually at a swimming hole or a somewhere with a good view!

Day 1 - Leave Lençóis and spend the morning wandering up and seeing the magnificent views, make your way to the Jaguar’s Cave for lunch (don’t worry, the Jaguar is out to lunch!) In the afternoon your walking is rewarded with a swim in the Palmital Waterfall (picture above). That night camp is made at the Capivara Waterfall. (picture to the right)

Day 2 (Optional) - Leave the camp without packs and take a day trip to the Capivari Waterfall. This day can be extremely tiring as the whole day is spent walking over rocks in the riverbed.

Day 3 - Leave the Capivara Waterfall and walk up river to tributary of the Fumaça and Capivara Rivers, known as the Fumaça Cave. Here you leave your packs and continue up the Fumaça River until you find yourself underneath the magnificent 400 metre high Fumaça Waterfall (photo left). After lunch you can enjoy a swim in the pool under the largest shower you could imagine! Return to camp.

Day 4 - Leave the Fumaça Cave and begin the steep climb up to the top of the Fumaça Waterfall. Small streams are found for filling water bottles and there is a well needed swimming hole to cool of in after lunch.

At last you are rewarded with the spectacular views from the top of the Fumaça Waterfall. 

From here it is all flat and downhill to the valley of Capão and a well deserved drink from the bar! 

Return to Lençóis by road (2 hours) or overnight stay in Capão.

Day 5 (Optional) - Leave Capão for the much easier walk back to Lençóis through the Ribeirão Valley (photo right) with spectacular views of the Morrão Hill (photo above) and later of Lençóis itself.
